Orchard Nuts: Eat Fat To Get Skinny

One of my stay skinny secrets is just plain nuts.  If you follow this blog, you already know all about my absolute love of heathy fat throughout the day.  It keeps me full, nourished, calm, and happy, so naturally when I find a new “fat” discovery to make life even easier, I want to share it.

For those who shop at the local Safeway stores, a new Safeway Select package called Orchard Nut Trio with Sea Salt makes my nut addiction quick and varied.  Almonds, cashews and pistachios all are nutritional powerhouses with essential minerals.  Equally important, I can eat a greater number of tiny pistachios and crunchy almonds than most other nuts in a 1/4 cup serving.

Still, don’t discount the importance of a few cashews in the mix.  Some people avoid cashews because of the higher fat content, but it’s all about portion control.  Eating several in a mix of almonds and pistachios is perfect!  Besides being delicious, cashews were recently cited as one of the top superfoods, containing several antioxidant compounds that are regarded as anticancer  agents.

This Orchard Trio mix is a great variety.  I typically have one handful (1/4 cup) of nuts every afternoon with lunch — almonds, walnuts, pecans, or now this mixed blend to get my pistachios and cashews fix.

If you don’t have a Safeway store near you, it is certainly simple enough to create your own mix and store it in a tight container.  For a real pop of flavor, try toasting the nuts, too.  Of course, for lazy, Easy Skinny me, this pre-mixed variety is my new best friend.

Eating Rule:  1/4 cup or one handful of nuts every day!  It works.  Believe me…
