Skinny Food Shopping for Fast Fat Healthy Meals

Go ahead.  Sneak a peek in my shopping bags this week.  It was my every-3-day trek to the grocery store today, and I followed my list to grab everything and get out in a flash!

Always pick just one or two grocery stores to learn the layout like the back of your hand.  It makes the every-3-day trip 3 times as fast.  Be as friendly as possible with the workers and managers for the best deals and service, too.  Ask questions about the produce or the fish.  You would be surprised how proud the produce managers are about their food and how eagerly they will share the freshest box with you.

Well, obviously, I’ve been at my own grocery store a bit too much.  The cashier actually asked me why I didn’t purchase cauliflower this week to go with my other vegetables.  (Am I that predictable?!)

For 3 dinners and a few “leftovers lunches”, my main proteins included a value pack of chicken drumsticks, quinoa and chickpeas, and also cottage cheese and shredded cheese for a new baked Skinny Mac & Cheese recipe to try.

One main quality carb per meal included red-skinned potatoes, sweet potatoes, and brown rice pasta.  (Note:  The quinoa and chickpeas can also serve as a main protein AND main carb).  A large package of whole grain tortillas for easy lunches, plus organic pure hummus, create the foundation for a variety of fresh packable wraps.

I have a large assortment of beautiful, colorful vegetables to add to each meal to either roast or steam or to prepare for an easy, huge salad.  I usually alternate between salads and cooked vegetables each night, each with a slightly different twist.

What else?  Frozen blueberries and fresh bananas for easy oatmeal or yogurt breakfasts.  As a tip, pick fruit that the entire family loves so that nothing ever goes to waste.

Eating with kids or picky partners?  I tossed in a large loaf of Italian bread and a huge package of pretzels.  They can inhale it, and I’m not tempted to touch the stuff.  Win; win.

Easy Skinny Life Rule:  Remember to pick just one main protein source or combo, plus one main whole grain carb, then add a ton of vegetables and fruits.
