Skinny German Food Choices at Oktoberfest

Another day, another dollar, and another cocktail party with the movers and shakers around town.  This one was a loud and fun Oktoberfest focused on German bier and drinks flowing in a cozy bar area with plenty of liquid and little substance.  Still, it was getting late, I was hungry , and I wanted FOOD.  I knew I needed to pick some type of snack from this festive spread of authentic German food.  My choices from the Bier Snacks:

  • Hot, salty pretzel with mustard.
  • Rye bread with a German cheese dip called Obatzda.
  • German hard cheese with mustard dip and liverwurst bites.

What did I pick?  I bypassed the little sausages, the white flour pretzel, the bread, and the mystery cheesy dip.  With no vegetables in sight, it left me with pure hard cheese.  Two large slices dipped in spicy mustard provided some protein and substance with my German glass of wine until I could get home for a quick healthy dinner.

My last name is about as German as one can get, but it was slim pickins’ for any healthy Oktoberfest food at this party.  When that happens, just drink up, Easy Skinny Lifers, and call it a night!  In the world of buffet choices, I know when to hold ’em and when to fold ‘em.
